Argosy Minerals Boosts DFS Progress with 99% Lithium Purity Result at Rincon Pilot

Key points

  • Rincon pilot test achieves 99% LiCl purity.

  • Technology de-risked, supporting DFS progression.

  • Funding and execution risks remain key investor concerns.

Argosy Minerals (ASX: AGY) has announced a significant advancement in its Rincon Lithium Project pilot test work, achieving 99% lithium chloride purity and 94.4% maximum lithium yield.

The results validate the core process technology, de-risking key assumptions and supporting progression to its Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS).

This is a crucial step towards the project's planned 12,000 tpa (tonnes per annum) production.

Operational stability for LiCl production was also confirmed.

The company noted that longer operation times consistently improved system recovery, purity and stability, indicating robust process performance.

DFS Progression De-risked

These positive pilot test results validate the chosen process technology and flowsheet selection, providing Argosy with a strong, robust industrial design base to move forward.

The engineering and process design works will now advance, aiming to refine the DFS execution schedules and cost estimates.

This technical validation helps streamline the path to final project feasibility.

Argosy's development strategy is a two-stage approach. Stage 1a focuses on producing solid or crystallised LiCl at the site.

Stage 1b then involves the conversion of this intermediate product into battery-quality lithium carbonate or lithium hydroxide, targeting high-value end products.

Annual Report Context

In its 31 December 2025 annual report, Argosy Minerals had already indicated substantial engineering progress at Rincon.

The company was working towards a construction-ready 12,000 tpa modular stage.

That report also highlighted updated hydrogeological modelling, which supported brine abstraction for up to 45 years at the 12,000 tpa production rate, underscoring the project's long-term potential.

Previous coverage has noted Argosy's spot sales of battery-quality lithium carbonate, demonstrating the company's ability to produce material with greater than 99.5% purity.

Outlook and Risks

The successful pilot test results are a positive de-risking milestone for Argosy Minerals' Rincon Lithium Project. They validate its core technology and support the progression to the Definitive Feasibility Study.

However, investors will continue to monitor several key areas.

These include the company's future funding needs, the execution risks associated with developing a large-scale project, and its ability to translate these technical achievements into a commercially viable operation.

Furthermore, the context of ongoing financial and macro risks in Argentina, such as foreign exchange volatility and hyperinflation, remains a significant consideration for the project's overall resilience.
