Janus Electric Holdings (ASX: JNS) has reported strong operational and commercial progress with North American partners as it continues to execute its growth strategy in the US and Canada.
The company’s integrated platform is gaining traction across key heavy transport markets, with a growing order book and a strengthening pipeline of fleet operator and infrastructure partnerships.
The platform combines diesel-to-electric conversion, swappable battery infrastructure, and fleet software.
In recent months, Janus has co-ordinated a number of customer deployments and market expansion initiatives in the region, building its market presence through increased engagement with fleet operators and industry stakeholders.
Expanded Support Team
Janus expects its work to benefit from an expanded North American team to support customer acquisition, project delivery and long-term market development.
The team will be spearheaded by a senior US-based commercial lead to drive customer engagement, dealer co-ordination, and pipeline development across the region.
The appointment strengthens Janus’ on-ground capabilities as it progresses opportunities in California and other markets where zero-emission fleet requirements are creating demand for commercially viable heavy vehicle electrification solutions.
US multi-modal freight logistics business Ability Tri-Modal, which operates in the Port of Los Angeles region, has demonstrated growing confidence in the Janus platform by adding another two diesel-to-electric conversion kits for a total four kits.
Construction of a dedicated charge-and-change station to service the customer’s fleet is underway to support the deployment of Janus-converted vehicles and provide a foundation for further fleet electrification in the Port of Los Angeles region.
Reducing Conversion Costs
Janus has received confirmation of US government funding for the four Ability Tri-Modal kits, dramatically reducing the conversion costs.
The company has been granted Heavy-Duty Incentive Program vouchers to the value of US$112,000 per truck, administered by the California Air Resources Board, along with a Port of Los Angeles “Plus” grant of US$54,000 per truck under a scheme available to port-adjacent operators.
The incentives potentially reduce the upfront and net cost of a Janus conversion to near zero for eligible California fleet operators.
It positions Janus as one of the most cost-effective pathways for port logistics operators working to meet California’s zero emission vehicle mandates.
Partnership Deployments
Janus is continuing to work with Los Angeles-based infrastructure partner Greenlane on the rollout of Janus Electric charging infrastructure at the Colton logistics precinct.
Colton is a major inland freight hub serving the greater Los Angeles region and the deployment represents an important milestone in Janus’ strategy of building a network of charge-and-change stations supporting the electrification of port freight operations.
Canadian battery technology partner Electrovaya has agreed to a deployment schedule for the JBS650 patented, high-capacity swappable battery platform.
The batteries are scheduled to undergo in-truck testing next month at Electrovaya’s production facility in Ontario, with deployment in California expected to follow soon after.
Solid Market Presence
Janus managing director Ben Hutt said building a solid presence in North America was an important part of the company’s strategy.
“North America represents one of the largest heavy transport electrification opportunities globally,” he said.
“The combination of growing customer demand, significant government incentives, expanding infrastructure, and a strengthening commercial pipeline gives us confidence that we are building momentum in the right markets.”
“Our focus remains on converting that momentum into long-term fleet deployments and recurring revenue.”
